This site is designed for teachers and learners of Italian who are looking to supplement their practice with AI-driven materials. The materials are divided into four main sections: communication, culture, grammar, and vocabulary (though as you will notice there is overlap between them). Once you have chosen your desired section you may pick from Open or Targeted activities. Please note that even though this is specific to Italian language learning all activities designed to be adaptable across languages.
Open activities are designed for teachers or for learners who have specific outcomes and objectives already in mind. These activities can be used across many different learning goals and are therefore considered "open." Users can follow the designed prompts but insert their own content or grammar goals to practice.
Targeted activities are generally geared toward students who do would prefer to be told what to practice in addition to how to practice it (for example "days of the week" exercises are designed to help students learn that focused vocabulary objective).
This site was designed by lecturers of Italian at the University of Pennsylvania with financial support from the Penn Language Center. The goal of this project is to help students and teachers interested in AI-supported language learning.
This site is meant to be approachable and adaptable to suit the needs of the user. We have chosen to prioritize CoPilot because it is supported by our institution and maintains more privacy and protection for our students, but this too should be considered adaptable across the AI models you feel best reflect your ethics and institutions.
In this regard it is also important to acknowledge that the constantly changing landscape of AI may render some of these activities obsolete or better adapted with newer technologies; here again we maintain the value in these open and adaptable prompts, prompts which are also designed with the RICO model in mind. RICO models help frame prompts to consider Role, Instructor, Context, and Output, and as such work to facilitate the better AI outputs. With changing AI models of course we must also recognize that some prompts work better with certain bots, and we invite you to take our models as adaptable suggestions designed in the spirit of collaboration and lingustic and cultural exchange.
